This workshop is a crash course in enhancing poetry with imagery, textures and typography with visual poet, Lauren Holden.
Designed with amateur and absolute beginner poets in mind, the workshop will prepare participants to share their written work in professional and visually interesting ways.
Lauren will guide participants through a series of poetry-writing exercises, encouraging them to write about and share their experiences of living or visiting Twillingate.
Then, the group will explore the importance of fonts, image crops, space and more in expressing the emotions and ideas in their written work.
Using the online self-publishing service Blurb (www.blurb. ca), participants will learn to create simple layouts that incorporate their poetry and images.
The spreads generated in the workshop will then be compiled into a short visual poetry zine about life in Twillingate to be distributed to participants.
Print and e-book self-publishing through Blurb will also be explored briefly, giving participants the building blocks to create (and even sell) self-authored publications in the future.
Participants will need to bring their own laptop or tablet / iPad.
